There's A New Duke Of Albany

The first Duke of Albany was James. There was all the usual royal stuff. He married a commoner, everyone got mad. Later he married a Catholic, everyone got madder. Assassination attempts. And of course the good ol' nephew who leads a rebellion. Actually two nephews, the failed one by the Duke of Monmouth, and the winning coup by William of Orange, who was also James' son-in-law. The Duke of Albany, alas, fled and had to live the rest of his life in this tiny little apartment.

As of today, there's a new Duke of Albany.

John King -- co-founder of Roxbury Prep Charter School, and later a managing director of Uncommon Schools, and once upon a time a history teacher at City on a Hill Charter School -- is now New York State Education Commissioner and President of the University of the State of New York. He was a real help to MATCH in 1999 and 2000 about the most basic aspects of how to launch a charter school. I'll set early odds of him becoming US Secretary of Education by 2022 as 7-to-1. Good news for John and very good news for NY kids.
