New Orleans

Beginning in 2011-12, the Match School Foundation was hired by New Schools for New Orleans to coach teachers in New Orleans, based on our own work in our residential teacher training program.

  • We are coaching ~50 teachers per year, for two years. They are full time teachers in NOLA-based charter schools, in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of teaching.
  • We coach teachers who give us permission to coach them. We don’t think coaching works without total buy-in from the participants.
  • Our goal is to make the teachers massively better at classroom management and relationship building with students.

While this work is grounded in our historical work, that work to date has focused on training rookie teachers. The work with New Orleans concerns the development of teachers already on the job.

We are measuring our success carefully. We have set up a control and a treatment group. Click here to view the evaluation protocol, as written and conducted by an economist at Harvard.
