Great Oaks Charter Schools
The Great Oaks Charter Schools are a small network of middle and high schools in New York and New Jersey. Great Oaks was founded by Michael Duffy, a former Match Education board member and long-time charter school leader in Boston. Great Oaks schools are inspired by Match, and they feature full-time tutor corps.
The first Great Oaks Charter School opened in Newark in 2011, and a second school is planned to open in New York City in 2013. The Executive Director of Great Oaks' first school in Newark, Jared Taillefer, is a former Match School leader.
The Great Oaks Foundation and Match Education have collaborated since 2010. Match Education provides Great Oaks with advice, tutor recruiting assistance, and referrals for teachers and school leaders.
State test results are not yet available for Great Oaks in Newark. Early assessment results are positive, with students making significant literacy gains on the Scholastic Reading Inventory.
